Confront the Gong

Reigning Kansas City Gay Pride queen Daisy Buckët, freshly crowned and sashed, hosts tonight’s Gong Show benefit for the annual AIDS Walk, starting at 8 p.m. at Sidekicks Saloon (3707 Main, 816-931-1430). Like the infamous Chuck Barris-hosted competition of the untalented from the 1970s, the show pits performers against one another in a test to see who can perform their terrible acts for the longest amount of time without getting “gonged out” by a celebrity panel anchored by Melinda Ryder, Channing Larue and DeDe Deville. If you’re over 21 years old and your act is nondestructive and contains no combination of nudity or animals, you can pay $5 to compete. Sign-up is at 7 p.m. The grand prize is two tickets to a Kansas City performance of Wicked at the Music Hall.
