Concert Review: The Life and Times
There is something powerful about a rock concert when the hum of the band’s static becomes a part of your body. You can feel the buzzing of the band in your stomach, your feet, your teeth.
These moments remind me of something my parents said about hip-hop, and my parents’ parents said about punk, and my parents’ parents’ parents said about rock and roll. “That’s just noise,” they said, spitting out the last word with disdain. Which leads me (and thousands of other music freaks before me) to think: Well, what the hell is wrong with noise?
According to native Kansas City post-rockers the Life and Times, there ain’t nothing wrong with noise. Brain-bleeding, bass-buzzing, guitar-string-busting noise – and lots of it.
