Concert Calendar: Guns N’ Roses, Steely Dan, Peter Bjorn and John, Public Enemy, Dave Matthews Band, Taking Back Sunday and more
Guns N’ Roses
The classic Guns N’ Roses lineup — Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan — is back together for a much-anticipated summer tour, aptly titled “Not in This Lifetime.” (It marks the first time that Slash and Rose have been onstage together since 1993.) If you can barely believe that this superstar act is still able to hit the road, perhaps this information will impress you further: Most of the reviews so far indicate that GNR has only gotten better with age. Rose — a frontman with all the powerful personality and charisma of a cult leader — and the rest of the gang should not be missed.

Steely Dan with Steve Winwood
The indisputable brilliance of Steely Dan began with the rock band’s 1972 debut album, Can’t Buy a Thrill, and has been reinforced by each subsequent release. The combined talents of founding members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen meant that the ’70s glittered a good deal more, thanks to their eccentric, jazz-influenced sound. But Thursday’s show at Starlight won’t be all boomer nostalgia: Expect to hear some classic cuts interspersed with a few newer tracks from the group’s Grammy Award-winning 2000 album, Two Against Nature, and 2003’s Everything Must Go. With a 50-year history between Becker and Fagen, this show will be well worth your time. Bonus: Rock royalty Steve Winwood opens.

Peter Bjorn and John
Breakin’ Point, the latest album from Peter Bjorn and John, seeks to resuscitate the airy dream-pop that first delivered the Swedish trio to success with 2006’s hit single “Young Folks.” In a lot of ways, Breakin’ Point accomplishes this — with a little dash of Abba-inspired polish. Each track seems determined to put its best hook forward, to get you to move some limbs and nod your head. Make no mistake: These are songs that PB&J want to get stuck in your head. Tuesday at the Granada, expect just that.
