Concert Calendar: Drake, Future, Duran Duran, Dr. Dog, Chipotle Cultivate Festival, Culture Club, Indigo Girls and more

Drake and Future
Drake might be the world’s most sensitive, self-conscious rapper. He’s probably the only person who could take albums filled with lyrics so fixated on his own shortcomings and doubts (see: Views) and turn them into global hits. Why do we listen to this guy, anyway? Maybe it’s his gleaming smile, letting us know that he’s all right, even through the paranoia. Saturday night at the Sprint Center, Drake reunites with BFF and frequent collaborator Future (What a Time to Be Alive) for a show that will leave one of hip-hop’s five richest players emotionally exposed. Bring tissues — for him, maybe.

Duran Duran
If you’re planning to see legendary new wave act Duran Duran on Sunday at Starlight Theatre, we’ve got some news that might make you a little sad: Founding member and keyboardist Nick Rhodes has dropped out of the rest of the tour due to a family issue. But the show goes on, and John Taylor — the original Duran Duran bass player — is carrying on with the company of an expert band that should make the show worthwhile. Just don’t expect a nostalgia set: Duran Duran’s summer jaunt is in promotion of last year’s Paper Gods, an electrifying and worthy take on modern synth-pop. (Janelle Monáe is featured on it, for crying out loud.) While the rest of us are getting older, Duran Duran seems to be getting cooler.

Dr. Dog, Shakey Graves
Fifteen years ago, before guitarist Scott McMicken and bassist Toby Leaman had become psych-rock band Dr. Dog, they had an experimental demo tape that was promptly forgotten — until this year. The Psychedelic Swamp is that first album reimagined and finished. With its hazy, warped twang and extraterrestrial melodies, it sounds like a return to bizarre form for the band. The lyrics are fun, though largely nonsensical, as though all 13 tracks were written under the influence of a combination of drugs. Thursday at Crossroads KC, let’s hope they’re sharing. Shakey Graves opens.
