Comment of the Week: Who was Antwan Clark?

We’re in the midst of another bloody year in the Killa City. The death toll for both KCK and KCMO stands at five. Antawn Clark is among the victims.
The 22-year-old was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in the 2500 block of Chestnut. Kansas City police released Clark’s name on Monday, and I wrote this post (“Antwan Clark, Killa City homicide No. 5: Man dies after being shot in front yard“). But there wasn’t a lot of information about who Clark was.
Thanks to reader Tierre Berger, we know a lot more now.
Please understand who you see when you take a look at this man. Antawn Clark came up doing the best he could to make it. He didn’t start out in the best of situations but he was determined and dreamed to do something positive with his life. With just a little mentoring he became a very talented musician (Drummer) played for his Church in his native town Flint, MI. And the amazing thing about it, contrary to what most would think about this man at first sight.
The amazing thing that no one can ever, ever take away from him is his relationship with God. Oh yeah I said it, this man Knew Jesus and accepted him in his life back when he was 15. The most powerful thing about accepting Jesus is that it transcends successes and failures, good times and bad, past mistakes and future accomplishments.
And if that wasn’t wonderful enough our father will hold our hand through life and death (just like a loving father comforts a child who scared of the dark by holding their hand and telling them “it’s ok I’m right here, I got you”) Antawn Clark’s untimely demise is a tragedy, a man who had dreams of a better tomorrow for himself and his family met with eternity January 3rd 2010. Those who really knew him will miss the funny way he laughed. Those who really cared for him will miss his way of expressing his heart. Those who really loved him will feel a piece of themselves gone too. It is so difficult to see someone pass away before you do. Although Antwan was my Godson he really was my son too. I’ll always love you.
Jackson County prosecutors have charged Tony D. Garrett with second-degree murder in connection with Clark’s death.
