ComedyCity is moving to the Uptown Shoppes next month

Since 2008, ComedyCity – the local comedy organization that treats improv like a sport (of sorts) – has been leasing space inside Westport Flea Market, having fled its previous location at Third and Charlotte in the River Market. As of June, though, it’ll have its own home again, in the Uptown Shoppes at 3600 Broadway, Suite 107. Owner Clay Morgan says the new place will allow the company to stretch its lineup from Thursday through Sunday (it can only do shows Friday and Saturday at the Flea) and maybe develop a few new ideas, like open-mic and music nights.

“It’ll still be our standard show, but we’ll be able to better give the full ComedyCity experience,” Morgan says of the new venue. “We’ll have our own food and beverages, our own waitstaff. And it’s bigger – we could do 130 people at the Flea Market, and here we’ll be able to sit 200.”

He’s currently in the midst of renovating the space (previously home to Prospero’s Uptown Books, which Morgan says plans to move just a few doors down), with a tentative opening the second weekend in June.
