Come forward, sign defacer!

Someone around town has a serious issue with the signs for Rebilt Homes.

The signs, which read, “Why Rent?” and brag that a minimum of $500 down can buy a home, have been defaced with black spray paint to read “NO” or “BAD.” They’ve been spotted along Troost, Wornall, and 31st and Broadway.

The picture above was taken near 80th and Troost by the strip mall that houses G’s Jamaican Cuisine and China Dragon. Another was on the ground near the bus stop at 89th and Troost, and there used to be several more along this stretch.

Is this someone’s reaction to disastrous subprime mortgage schemes, or the fly-by-night companies that have sprung up in the wake of the lending crisis, offering wacky financing to people unfamiliar with home buying? We’d love to know the identity and the motives of this crusader whose strategy is much more effective than, say, just tearing the signs down.
