Collaboration dinners, Summit Bar and Grill’s birthday and more food and drink events October 23-30

Monday, October 23

Krokstrom Klubb and Market (3601 Broadway) is offering more than its typical Scandinavian fare tonight, when it features the work of chefs Abby Calvert (Krokstrom) and Sam Hall (the Rieger) for a night of seasonally inspired Italian offerings. The six-course menu will be available with drink pairings ($80, exclusive of tax and gratuity) and without ($60). The event is sold out, but last-minute cancellations are not unusual, so call 816-599-7531 to check for openings.

Tuesday, October 24

From 5 to 7 tonight, indulge in a free wine tasting at Tannin Wine Bar (1526 Walnut). Guiding the tasting will be brothers Jean-Francois and Jean-Phillipe Bourdy, 15th-generation winemakers from Jura, France (their winemaking lineage goes back to the 1400s). They might know a thing or two.

Wednesday, October 25

Chef Nash DeJesus and Boulevard beer ambassador Jeremy Danner are collaborating on a 10-course “Tacomakase” dinner tonight at Port Fonda (4141 Pennsylvania), featuring tortillas and masa from KC’s own KCMEX tortilleria, paired with limited-release Boulevard beers. The dinner is $55 a person. Call 816-216-2426 to inquire about open seats.

Another collaboration tonight is between chef Dan Swinney at Lidia’s Kansas City (101 West 22nd Street) and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits for a four-course Tuscan wine dinner. One tempting course, for example: a bistecca fiorentina (basically a luxe Italian T-Bone), served with braised cannelini beans and cavolo nero (a variety of kale). The dinner is $80 a person plus tax and gratuity. Call 816-221-3722, or by visiting the restaurant’s website

Thursday, October 26

Summit Grill and Bar is celebrating its birthday today at both its locations (a third birthday for 520 West 75th Street in Waldo, and a fifth for 4835 Northeast Lakewood Way in Lee’s Summit). The restaurants are both offering all-day happy hours, with food starting at 95 cents and drinks at $1.95; also: a $200 gift certificate giveaway (visit either of the two restaurants at any time today to enter this contest) and swag giveaways throughout the day at both locations.

Get a taste of Martin City Pizza and Brewing downtown tonight at Plowboys BBQ (1111 Main). Matt Moore (Martin City Brewing Company) will be working with the barbecue restaurant’s Todd Johns to create two one-night-only pizza offerings — pork belly and burnt ends — paired with Martin City’s HardWay IPA
and Alchemy Coffee Stout. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m.

From 4 to 10 p.m., visit Crane Brewing Company (6515 Raytown Street) for its second-annual Halloween Party. A special keg of Lacrimae Nocturnis, a harvest spiced ale, will be tapped, and prizes will be offered for the best costumes. The Waffler food truck will also be on hand.

Friday, October 27

Halloween may suck all the air out of the room this month, but Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos is also around the corner. Marking this, the Guadalupe Centers (1015 Cesar E Chavez) is hosting a Dia de los Muertos Celebration from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., complete with dancing, art, history and, of course, food. Admission is free.

Saturday, October 28

Today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can visit Bluestem (900 Westport Road) for Autumn Tea. Enjoy a selection of teas while selecting from a range of pastries and tea sandwiches in one of KC’s finest dining rooms. The event is $36 for adults or $15.50 for children, exclusive of tax or gratuity. Call 816-561-1101 for reservations. (Seatings are available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.).
