Coalesce at the Bottleneck

If Coalesce had to pick a place to step up and headline, they couldn’t have asked for a better place than Lawrence. After Converge canceled a couple dates due to transmission troubles, Coalesce headlined in their stead. What luck that one of them happened to be a hometown date.
Sadly, the loss of the headliner combined with a torrential downpour and threats of tornadoes, so the band played to something around 100 kids. However, while the crowd was small, they were enthusiastic. To those that were there, frontman Sean Ingram thanked them “for not being dicks.”
The crowd responded to nearly every song with cheers and whistles of recognition. New stuff like “Wild Ox Moan” off last year’s Ox received as many kudos as did classics like “Cowards.com” or “You Can’t Kill Us All,” the latter of which had its intro shouted along by everyone near the front of the stage.
