For a DJ, there’s probably no gig more lucrative than being on a New Year’s Eve bill. Techno heavyweight Carl Cox reportedly played NYE 2000 in Australia, then immediately flew across the International Date Line to Hawaii to do it again. Ringing in 2007 for KC at 5401 (the lower level of Lucky Brewgrille in Mission) are some talented cats in their own right. Opening up is the youngster Iggy Baby, who, in line with Jarrett Spiegel (former Walter Meego DJ and KU student), should tread into electronic waters. The duo Tactic follows with its own unhinged take on club music. Coming from San Francisco is the DJ duo White Girl Lust, whose latest disco-hyphy mash-up mix, Bay Slaps and Disco Raps, is capturing a sizable audience (www.myspace.com/whitegirllust). Closing out the night are DJs Konsept and Sku. Sku was, of course, voted Best DJ in the Pitch Music Awards for two years running. — Chris Milbourn
