Clothes for a Cause
Justin Farmer may not be a fashionista, but he’s learning how to throw a fashion show. After five years of helping with the advertising and marketing of the AIDS Walk, Farmer and his friend Jessica Didion wanted to contribute more to the cause. “We really felt like the 20- to 30-something kind of urban crowd really didn’t participate in it as much as they should,” Farmer explains. “Most of the crowd that we saw at the AIDS Walk was always the 40-plus business professionals or the young gays and lesbians. Clubgoers … they should be the people taking notice.” Hoping a parade of locally designed clothing and accessories might be the right enticement to their peers to support the AIDS Walk, Farmer and Didion founded the Red Line Benefit Fashion Show and Auction. Twelve local designers, including Jovana Mirabile and Pitch MasterMind winner Ari Fish, each donated at least five one-of-a-kind articles of clothing, jewelry or other accessories designed around the theme of red, which will be modeled and auctioned off at the end of the night. All proceeds from the auction benefit the AIDS Walk. The style show begins at 7 p.m. in the Event Space at Nara (1617 Main, 816-221-6272). Admission is free, and each designer will have a booth stocked with other original items for sale.
