Some last-minute real talk before Kansas City elects a new mayor on Tuesday

Next Tuesday is the big day: Kansas City will elect a new mayor (and council members, and a couple other things) on June 18. I think we’re rushing into it. We need, bare minimum, 75 more public debates and forums.

On the latest City Rag podcast, I chatted with Pitch contributor Barbara Shelly about Mayor Sly James’ eight years in office and what we think about the campaigns of the two Kansas City Council members competing to succeed James: Jolie Justus and Quinton Lucas. We also talked a bit about the inner workings of The Kansas City Star editorial board, which Barb used to sit on.

And we discussed our puzzlement over what in the hell is going on with Darryl Forté.

Barb’s recent piece on James’ legacy is here. Her piece on the chilly relationship between James and Lucas is here.
