Starting Sept. 29, the City of Kansas City will host six four-hour training sessions every Monday through Nov. 3 as part of its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.

This free training, offered through the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), is designed to educate volunteers on how to prepare for disasters if hazards—such as flooding, winter storms, terrorism, among others—occur in your area.

CERT, is a nationally recognized certification program consisting of 24 hours of instruction divided into six units, including a final exercise. Participants will cover topics related to fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, and more.

Attendance at all trainings is mandatory to receive certification. Most sessions will be held at Midtown KC Now, located on 3931 Main St., KCMO, with some also taking place at OEM, 635 Woodland Ave., KCMO.

Although the upcoming sessions are full, interested volunteers can add their names to a list to be notified of the next training. More information about the programming can be found here.
