Citizen Koch, documentary about Wichita’s Koch brothers, screens tonight in Lee’s Summit

The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision opened the floodgates for orgiastic amounts of corporate money to flow into American politics. Nobody has taken more advantage of that decision than the Kochtopus — the network of conservative money controlled by Wichita natives Charles and David Koch. 

A recent documentary, Citizen Koch, explores the power that this money can wield. The film examines, among other things, the events in Wisconsin in 2011, when out-of-state billionaires like the Kochs spent breathtaking sums of money to strip state employees of their unions. The same phenomenon is happening closer to home, in Kansas and Missouri. (See: Rex Sinquefeld.)

Progress Missouri and Protect MO Families are jointly hosting a screening of Citizen Koch tonight at the Dickenson Eastglen 16 Theaters, in Lee’s Summit. It begins at 7:30 p.m.

“The Koch brothers’ agenda is to repeal every major piece of legislation that has been signed into law over the past 80 years that has protected the middle class, the elderly, children, the sick, and the most vulnerable in this country,” Sanders said in an announcement regarding his proposed constitutional amendment. “Our great nation can no longer be hijacked by right-wing billionaires like the Koch brothers. For the sake of our children and our grandchildren, for the sake of our economy, we have got to let democracy prevail.”
