CINEMATOGRAFO ITALIANO

The land of Vittorio de Sica, Federico Fellini and Michelangelo Antonioni still boasts a vibrant cinema, and the 2010 Italian Film Festival USA brings 12 award-winning films of recent vintage to audiences in nine cities. Five of the films — each nominated for or honored with Italian cinema awards — make their way to the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at Johnson County Community College (12345 College Boulevard in Overland Park, 913-469-3000) this weekend. The festival opens tonight at 7 with Fausto Brizzi’s 2009 romantic comedy Many Kisses Later. The weekend’s slate — with 1 and 3 p.m. screenings on Saturday and Sunday — includes Pupi Avati’s 2009 comedy, The Friends at the Margherita Café; Alessandro D’Alatri’s 2002 romantic comedy, If By Chance; Avati’s 2008 period drama, Giovanna’s Father; and Giulio Manfredonia’s 2008 comedy, We Can Do That. Admission to all films is free. For complete information, see italianfilmfests.org/kansas_city.html.
