Cinder Block Brewery celebrates its third anniversary, Double Shift and Stockyards release new beers, the High Plains Brewhoff returns, Oktoberfest continues and more beer events
The next draft-only release from Double Shift Brewing Co. (412 East 18th Street) is a Wheat Wine, brewed with honey malt and aged in brandy-soaked oak. It’s a big one at 9.1 percent ABV, and I’m hoping to try this one.
Celebrate the three years of Cinder Block Brewery (110 East 18th Avenue, North Kansas City) with a firkin tapping at 5 p.m. Then head down the street for a Smokin’ Guns BBQ (1218 Swift, North Kansas City) and Crane Brewing beer dinner at 6:30 p.m. Seats go for $25 or $40 for a couple. The latest rare tap night at the Flying Saucer (101 East 13th Street) features Evil Twin Big Ass Money Stout. Get there at 6 p.m.
Martin City Brewing Co. is the featured brewery for Pinstripes (13500 Nall, Overland Park) from 6 to 8 p.m.
Waldo Pizza (7433 Broadway) taps Mothers Squashed chocolate-pumpkin Porter, Founders Mango Magnifico ale and North Coast Old Rasputin Russian imperial stout.
Cinder Block’s birthday party continues at the brewery with a killer lineup of barrel-aged releases tonight at 5. So many not-to-be-missed beers: 2015 Retribution Rye, 2015 Un Oak’d Black Squirrel, 2013 Un Oak’d Barleywine, 2013 Barrel-Aged Black Squirrel and Black Squirrel Cider. For just $25, you get an 8-ounce anniversary tasting glass and a taster of each beer. Take a cab or Uber.
The annual downtown Lee’s Summit Oktoberfest starts at 5 p.m. and goes until 11. The festival continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Prost!

Nebraska Brewing is the featured happy hour at Bier Station (120 East Gregory Boulevard) from 4 to 7 p.m.

The annual High Plains Brewhoff homebrew competition goes down from 2 to 7 p.m. in Old Downtown Overland Park.
KC Bier Co.’s annual Oktoberfest kicks off at 11 a.m., and there will be a Bavarian Barrel tapping of Festbier at noon. The celebration goes until 10 p.m. and resumes Sunday at noon (until 9 p.m.).
Tonight at 5, Cinder Block releases a special anniversary beer, Small Batch Oatmeal IPA, at the brewery. Stockyards Brewing Co.’s (1600 Genessee) taps Stocktoberfest Marzen.
How about some cider? Louisburg Ciderfest takes places at the Louisburg Cider Mill (14730 KS-68, Louisburg) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival resumes Sunday, same hours.
Metcalf Discount Liquor (8850 West 95th Street, Overland Park) holds a Crane tasting at 1 p.m.
Are you in Hamilton, Missouri? Ninja Moose Brewery (105 West Bird Street, Hamilton) is throwing a beer bash during the annual J.C. Penney Days street dance. The brewery is tapping 15 beers. The party starts at 4 p.m.
Stockyards’ Bluegrass Sundays series continues with Konza Swamp from 4 to 7 p.m.
Play Drinko, the Price Is Right style game, during a Lagunitas happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bier Station (120 East Gregory Boulevard).
The next Bell’s glass night is at 6 p.m. at the Flying Saucer. This doubles as a Bike Walk KC fundraiser, so get a 20-ounce nonic glass of Best Brown Ale or Oatsmobile. Or both.
