Christina Hergott, strategist at Pink Moon Marketing and b.Legal Marketing, talks listening to KCUR, remixing ‘YMCA’ and more

Twitter handle: @stinahergott

Hometown: Olathe

Current neighborhood: River Market

What I do: Help companies look good and connect with their clients, spend time with people I love, explore KC, enjoy the outdoors, read books, travel.

What’s your addiction? The life-changing magic of tidying up.

What’s your game? Riding bikes. I’m training for the Dirty Kanza in June. It’s a 200-mile gravel-road race through the Flint Hills. I feel both crazy and badass.

What’s your drink? Kanbucha OmTree in the afternoon. Cabernet Sauvignon in the evening. Spicy Hot V8 during a bike ride (try it!).

Where’s dinner? The Farmhouse. I love their philosophy, people, inventive specials and running into all of my neighbors.

What’s on your KC postcard? A view of the skyline from the north with the Missouri River in the foreground. The river has so much historical significance and is one of my favorite parts of living in the River Market.

Finish these sentences: “Kansas City got it right when …” We voted yes for the streetcar.

“Kansas City screwed up when …” We gentrified the city and made Troost Avenue a dividing line in our community.

“Kansas City needs …” A better public school system.

“As a kid, I wanted to be …” A cat. I still do somedays.

“In five years, I’ll be …” I don’t know, and I’m OK with that. I approach life as a series of moves in the right direction. Keep connecting and be ready. The mystery is half the fun.

“I always laugh at …” My best friends. The seven of us have been together since elementary school (Tomahawk, stand up!) and whether it’s Bitmojis, lock-ins or dance-offs, we’re always cracking up.

“I’ve been known to binge watch …” House of Cards, Transparent, Bob’s Burgers, Master of None.

“I can’t stop listening to …” KCUR. I learn, laugh, cry and stay in my car for way too long. That’s good listening.

“My dream concert lineup is …” Grouplove, Eminem, Umphrey’s McGee. In that order. At Crossroads KC. How do we make this happen?

“I just read …” Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg. “Real change will come when powerful women are less of an exception. A truly equal world would be one where women ran half our countries and companies and men ran half our homes.”

What’s your hidden talent? Wiggling my ears. My grandpa taught me when I was little, and I’ve still got it.

What’s your guiltiest pleasure? Plain M&M’s, jammies and Netflix

The best advice I ever got: “You’re stronger than you think you are.” A sentiment preached at the mountain-bike race Leadville 100 and something my dad (an #LT100 finisher) reminds us of.

Worst advice? “Don’t be weird.”

My sidekick? My best friend, teammate and husband, Nick. He’s hilarious, adventurous, driven and always has my back.

What is your spirit animal? Leslie Knope

Who (or what) is your nemesis? My alarm clock. It always goes off too soon.

My favorite toy as a child: Do books count? One time my dad caught me remixing the “YMCA” song in front of my mirror to “R-E-A-D” (movements and all). So there’s that.

My brush with fame: Tradeshows have a tendency to get long, so when I had the opportunity to take a photo with Ty Pennington in an exhibitor booth, I kissed him. On the cheek, but still.

What was the last thing you had to apologize for? Likely getting rid of something my husband would still like to own. #KonMari

Who’s sorry now? The cab driver who angrily chased us into our building a few years ago when we told him we didn’t have cash and could only pay by credit card. Sorry not sorry.

My recent triumph: Getting involved with Legal Aid’s Young Professional Board. We are building a community of people who care about Kansas City, giving back and connecting.
