Chiefs win coin flip, 11th overall pick in the NFL Draft
The Kansas City Chiefs may not get Andrew Luck, but they might have luck on their side in 2012. In a scene straight out of Friday Night Lights, the Kansas City Chiefs won an important coin flip earlier this morning. With Scott Pioli looking on, ESPN reports that the Chiefs won a coin toss that gave them the 11th pick in the draft and left the Seattle Seahawks with the 12th pick.
It turns out that the mechanism for determining draft position can be as arbitrary as overtime in an NFL game — the key is in winning the coin toss. The Seahawks are likely wishing that the tie was broken via a best-of-three, rocks-paper-scissors match. Mock drafts have shown the Chiefs taking everybody from OT Jonathan Martin out of Stanford to Alabama RB Trent Richardson. The draft begins Thursday, April 26.
