Chiefs Finish Year At Home Against San Diego

A year ago the San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs both made the AFC playoffs. Heading into Week 17, the Chargers have a more realistic chance at a trip to the post-season. That’s extra motivation for San Diego, but Kansas City can’t be counted out of this intense regular season finale, either, as they surely won’t want to help the Bolts punch their playoff ticket on their own field and also could still sneak in if everything falls into place.

For this week’s game, Chiefs tickets begin at $10 and have an average price of just $51, making it the cheapest game of the season at Arrowhead. There are still pricey tickets to be had, however, with Arrowhead Stadium VIP boxes starting at $5,000. Nonetheless, that’s one of the cheaper rates for a suite to an NFL game, according to SuiteHop.com.

Kansas City shocked everyone with an insane 9-0 start last year, and eventually made the playoffs at 11-5. This year expectations were down a bit, but Andy Reid’s crew is still in position to potentially sneak into the playoffs. They’ll need to top the Chargers to finish 9-7 and they’ll also need a ton of help. On top of that, they’ll have to do it without starting quarterback Alex Smith, who is out for the year with a lacerated spleen. On the bright side, with wins over the Dolphins, Bills and Chargers, KC would hold most of the tiebreakers they need to get in. If backup Chase Daniel can get the Chiefs past the Chargers, they just might sneak into the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Kansas City has somewhat faint playoff hopes, but they’re at least facing a familiar foe at home this week. KC edged out the Bolts in San Diego 23-20 earlier in the year, so they’ll know they can take care of business at home this week, too.

The game plan will be centered around running back Jamaal Charles more than ever with Smith sidelined, but after dropping 95 yards and a touchdown on San Diego last time, the Chiefs know they can get it done on the ground. There is a little bit of deja vu here, too, as the Chargers beat the Chiefs in overtime in last year’s season finale to get into the playoffs. The Chiefs will hope this year’s finale ends a little differently.
