Chief Corwin is begging you to snitch

A toddler gets shot, and the father doesn’t want to talk. And even though 40 people were in the yard when the shooting happened, few are talking. The young girl — police say she’s either 2 or 3 years old — was reportedly shot in the spine but is now in stable condition.
Who knows if it’s fear of reprisal or an unspoken street code or just distrust of police. But if a father isn’t even willing to help the police after his own blood was shot, then that tells you the depth of the problem.
Now, Kansas City Police Chief Jim Corwin — on his blog — is begging people to talk, even if it’s anonymously calling the TIPS Hotline (816-474-8477) to report info on crimes. Corwin reels off three examples from this weekend in which the victims refused to cooperate with police (and there were probably more). Even so, Corwin says police are trying to do what they can to pursue charges in the toddler’s shooting. He admits it isn’t going to be easy, but they’re going to try.
I’m not optimistic.
