The aptly titled Pig & Pinot mini festival is going down at Char Bar on Sunday. If you haven’t nabbed a ticket to this tasty backyard shindig, there are a few things that might convince you to go. Namely — as you might have guessed from the event theme — food from pigs and wine from grapes.

“With Char Bar, we’ve realized that the majority of our wine drinkers are picky about wines — they want the good stuff,” Randyl Danner, the beer and beverage director for Char Bar and its sister restaurants (McCoy’s, the Foundry and Beer Kitchen) tells me. “And your red zinfandels and cabernets and pinot noirs go really well with barbecue. They’ve been popular here, and we’re actually in the process of adding a reserve wine list to our menu.”

It was a short jump, Danner says, from noticing the popularity of vino at Char Bar to crafting a pork-centered tasting experience at the restaurant’s expansive backyard.

“Our owner, James Westphal, wanted to celebrate the fun pork dishes that Char Bar can do,” she says, “and to complement all of the pork dishes, we’ll have six different pinot noirs. We’re really excited. We’re going through Woodland Heritage Farms [in Leavenworth] and using the whole hog for some of the dishes we’re serving, and all the pinot noirs are American.”

For $50, attendees will have unlimited access to the pork tasting stations, in addition to a three-ounce pour of each of the wines. Backyard games will be complementary, so there will be an opportunity to work off some of the eats and drinks. The full menu for the event is listed below.
