Cephalic Carnage

Can you think of any other band that makes topics such as getting raped by evil spirits or the scary underbelly of government mind-control conspiracies come across like a good time? Even if you can, chances are it doesn’t come close to matching the zany flair of Cephalic Carnage, which obviously has a blast onstage but also seems 100 percent sincere about its lyrical content. If Cephalic’s many loving, not-so-subtle odes to marijuana don’t give away that the band is profoundly warped by the potent weed that grows in its native Rocky Mountain region, its brand of grind should. Make no mistake, this music is brutal as hell (not to mention tight), but Cephalic is one of the few bands on the extreme-metal landscape that doesn’t pose like a bunch of macho, violence-obsessed pricks. Whereas others make a joke out of metal by being so over-serious, Cephalic commands serious attention because of its humor.
