Cats on Display

Take heed, lovers of all things kitty-cat: The 56th-annual Cat Fanciers’ Association Cat Show is on. The Mo-Kan Cat Club event claims the title of the Midwest’s largest such show, with 350 cats representing 30 breeds. This year’s theme is “Ragtime in Kansas City.” The inspiration for that: The featured breed is the lovable Ragdoll — an exceptionally sweet, exceptionally jumbo cat known for its docile nature and high cuddle factor. Vendor booths will offer cat toys, trees, furniture and other wares today and tomorrow. Purebred cats and kittens will be available for purchase, and the groups Kansas City Siamese Rescue and No More Homeless Pets Kansas City will be on hand for those who want to learn more about adoption and rescue programs. The show takes place at the Overland Park Convention Center (6000 College Boulevard, 913-339-3000) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission costs $7 for adults, $5 for those 60 and older, and $4 for children ages 3 to 12. For more information, call 913-345-1814 or e-mail info@mokancatclub.org.
