While its annual conference won’t be back in town until 2028, it’s worth remembering Folk Alliance International is still based in Kansas City and making things happen locally. One of those things is their regular First Friday free shows at the organization’s office, which have been going on since 2018.
This Friday, August 7, at 6 p.m. you can check out KC bluegrass quartet Whiskey Mash Band. They’re supporting last year’s Good Timin’ Bluegrass Band, which they describe as songs that explore themes of “midwest lifestyle, love, and travel,” which is pretty perfect subject matter, given they head out of town for a two-week international tour of Ireland and the UK later this month.
Folk Alliance Executive Director Jennifer Roe says of these shows, “One of my favorite things about First Fridays is seeing our space filled with neighbors, members, and music lovers who may be discovering Folk Alliance International for the first time. These evenings remind us that folk music has always been about bringing people together, while also giving us the opportunity to support outstanding regional artists and celebrate Kansas City’s vibrant music community year-round.”
