Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy’s ‘I Saw Your Daughter’ is your Westport Roots Festival song of the day

The inaugural Westport Roots Fest, centered around the Westport Saloon and taking place on Saturday, May 24, is approaching fast. To prepare for the pending roots romp presented by the good folks at Little Class RecordsThe Pitch will be highlighting a “song of the day” from one of the featured artists in the weeks leading up to fest.

Watching Jarrod Starling’s hand fly across his guitar is mesmerizing: He looks like he’s picking at two other invisible guitars at the same time, and the music of his band Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy kind of sounds that way. Starling’s voice, too, is something else. At times, it sounds a bit like he’s gargling with rocks, but the roughness is strangely melodic. His verses float jauntily along a fierce river of banjo, upright bass, washboard and mandolin. These Wichita boys will likely get your attention on Saturday.
