Camps Band

Greg Camp’s liver just “gave out on him” earlier this year, according to longtime friend and bandmate Gary Signor. “He lived the rock-and-roll lifestyle,” Signor says of the late local musician. “He was almost 60, and he played right up until a day before he passed away.” Signor and Camp played together, along with Jimmy Harlow, in the band Camp Harlow from 1975 on. Individually, they also all kicked around with a lot of other notable rock projects over the years, gigging locally at places such as Cowtown Ballroom, the Vanguard Coffeehouse and the Levee. “We all just kind of grew up together over the last 40 years,” Signor says. He has also drummed for Brewer and Shipley and the Jolly Brothers, both of which are on the bill for a show this afternoon in Camp’s honor. The Greg Camp Memorial Benefit Concert, at the Uptown Theater (3700 Broadway, 816-753-8665), also features Camp Harlow, the Nace Brothers and Tom Hall, among others. Doors open at 3 p.m., and the music starts at 4. “I don’t know when it will end,” Signor says. Tickets cost $15; proceeds will benefit the Greg Camp Family Fund.
