Call It, Friend-O

Find a penny, pick it up, and all day long you’ll have good luck. Find $2 million at the scene of a desert bloodbath, and you’ve got nothin’ but trouble. For Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin), trouble comes dressed as Anton Chigurh (Oscar winner Javier Bardem), one badass motherscratcher with a Prince Valiant haircut, who is singularly committed to finishing the task at hand. As Chigurh follows Moss and the money, Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) follows the trail of dead and lends a haunted conscience to Joel and Ethan Coen’s No Country for Old Men. Is Chigurh evil incarnate? Decide for yourself tonight at 6 when the 2007 Best Picture honoree screens in high definition at the Kansas City, Kansas, Main Library (625 Minnesota Avenue, 913-551-3280). The film is rated R for scenes of intense violence; admission is free.— Brent Shepherd
