Best known for boisterous performances with her band, Kelley Hunt possesses diverse talents that allow her to captivate an audience even when she’s alone. Hunt, accompanied by only her piano and acoustic guitar, will showcase her low-key material at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence on Friday night. On “Love Never Dies,” the solo number from her live CD, Inspiration, Hunt moves flawlessly from the blues roar that powers her raucous numbers to a subtle but powerful delivery. “Queen of the 88’s,” an autobiographical number made irresistible by its conversational tone and dazzling piano display, might offer the best clue of what an intimate evening with Hunt might produce. Her compelling storytelling promises to be an essential part of the proceedings, and her ability to incorporate blues, folk, soul, and rock into her songs should make for a satisfying set list. This show should offer more subtle delights than boogie-woogie dance fodder, but those wanting to groove need wait only one week; the Kelley Hunt Band returns on Friday, November 3, at the Grand Emporium.
