The headlining attraction at The Bottleneck on Sunday night will be The International Noise Conspiracy (pictured), a dapper Swedish band featuring former Refused frontman Dennis Lyxzen that does its damnedest to meet Phil Ochs’ definition of an ideal band — “the perfect symbiosis of Elvis and Che Guevera.” Staunchly political yet unafraid to have fun, the Conspiracy puts on sweat-soaked revivals filled with shout-along slogans and surprising soul. Sharing this group’s passion for change yet communicating it in a vastly different way, the Kansas City/Lawrence-based trio The Syndicate churns through fast, complex compositions with such titles as “You Know You’re Doing Something Right When There’s a Gun to Your Head.” The Syndicate distributes lyric sheets to the crowd, inviting listeners to follow along and assisting them with the process of deciphering the often-shouted vocals. With both Refused fans and new converts to Lyxzen’s revolutionary rock likely to turn out in great number, this show should provide The Syndicate with its largest reading room to date.
