There’s a certain glory inherent in ending a career that’s still in its prime, and Big Jeter, calling it a day after a little more than a year as Kansas City’s best comedic country/performance-art outfit, should be at the top of its game for its final show, a Halloween gig that will give it ample opportunity to model its countless costumes. Unfortunately, the group never got around to recording its celebrated triple-album debut, so Wednesday night’s show presents fans with their last opportunity to hear the inspired gospel of “Nail the Devil to the Door,” the frank romantic sentiments of “I’ll Never Stop Fucking You Tonight” or its husky ode to “Burly” ladies and gentlemen. With scores of equally amusing tunes vying for a spot on the setlist and the added promise of tricks and treats, Big Jeter’s last concert should provide both an irresistible spectacle and a bittersweet reminder of why the band will be sorely missed. Captured! by Robots, the must-see pairing of evil wise-cracking, instrument-playing robots and the enslaved and beleaguered singer who created them, sweetens the deal on candy night.
