Buy Mark Knopfler Tickets, Get His New Album For Free

Former Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler comes to the Midland on April 21. We know — that’s a little bit too much advance notice. However, advance tickets go on sale today at 10am, and this show’s going to have plenty of time to simmer and build notice. Knopfler’s new album, Get Lucky, comes out tomorrow, and there’s sure to be plenty of hubbub surrounding it, as he’s not released anything for two years.
Plus, if you buy your tickets online, rather than at the Midland box office, “a free copy of Get Lucky will be offered to fans for every pair of concert tickets purchased online.” That’s every pair of tickets — you have to buy two tickets, folks.
This just furthers the concept of the album as promotional fodder, with the real money to be found in touring. When No Doubt toured this summer, you got their entire fucking catalog if you bought a ticket. Coldplay gave away a free live album. I wouldn’t be surprised if this got common enough in the coming years to no longer bear mentioning after a while.
