Bummer has a Kickstarter to fund the pressing of its EP

In terms of local bands that are really hot right now, Bummer – a young three-piece from Olathe – is tip-of-the-tongue. It’s not just Bummer’s reputation for furious, ground-shaking live shows; it’s that, underneath the ominous, sludgy, fierce noise-rock the band dispenses, the guys – guitarist and lead singer Matt Perrin, bassist Mike Gustafson and drummer Thomas Williams – have mastered the ability to sound loose while simultaneously maintaining an exacting control over their instruments. 

And now, just over six months since the release of its debut EP Milk, Bummer is trying to gather up the funds to finally press their songs and get physical copies out. The band has just set up a Kickstarter campaign to help raise money. They’ve got a goal of $500 – nearly $400 of which is already met – and will use the funds to press CDs, get new t-shirts and “get a head-start” on summer tour plans. 

The band explains some of its motivations for doing the Kickstarter now on its page: “First we wanted vinyl and then that was too much, tried tapes and that didn’t go well, but now we have the chance to put some physicals out on CD. With your help we will be able to do just that. Yeah, it’s 2014 and ‘CD’s are lame now.’ But hey, a CD is better than a fistful of air I guess.”

Bummer’s Kickstarter video is basically just 34 awesome seconds of the band playing its blackened little heart out in a basement somewhere.
