Buffalo Tales’ ‘Puppet Strings’ is your Folk Alliance International Song of the Day

The International Folk Alliance Conference & Winter Music Camp comes to KC February 19-23. To get you geared up for the folk blowout, every day we’re posting a song we like by one of the event’s showcase artists.

There is nothing not to love about Sydney’s Wes Carr, who performs under the moniker Buffalo Tales. He’s got one of those smooth, Sunday-morning, coffee-in-bed voices that could melt the black ice off one of midtown’s many unplowed roads. Maybe he will next week when he’s here for the FAI conference.

Here’s some fun backstory, though: Back in 2008, Carr won Australian Idol and signed a fat record deal with Sony. He released one album with them – 2009’s The Way the World Looks, which was certified Gold – before returning to the life of an independent artist. In June last year, Carr released an EP titled Roadtrip Confessions as Buffalo Tales. Though Carr’s EP hasn’t had nearly the kind of success his last full-length saw, there’s certainly nothing lacking in his sound.
