‘Bring the Noise,’ a new monthly DJ series at the Firefly Lounge, honors Pete Rock this Sunday

For fans of old school and classic hip hop, there’s a new series going down on the last Sunday of every month at the Firefly Lounge featuring nothing but the good stuff. DJ Ataxic, DJ Platinum and DJ Joc Maxx have combined their powers to form Live PA. They’ve called the series Bring the Noise. We chatted with DJ Ataxic over the phone about what to expect this Sunday and how the whole thing happened.
“We start at 7 p.m. and we are basically playing the hip hop, funk and soul that we grew up and on and love – not mainstream stuff, nothing you’ll hear on the radio,” Ataxic says. “We’re just doing our stuff as DJs, playing the music we love and want to hear. We try to do a tribute to a group each month. This sunday it’s a tribute to Pete Rock. Next month it’ll probably be a tribute to Tribe Called Quest or something like that.”
Ataxic continues: “It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, ever since the Hip Hop and Hot Wings nights ended back in 2008 or 2009. It’s always been a night for older guys like myself to play the music that we love rather than hearing the Top 40 hip hop radio stuff that’s getting played everywhere else.”
Bring the Noise presents a Tribute to Pete Rock on Sunday, May 25. 7 p.m. Free. Details here.
