Brent Tactic confirms the rumors: he’s got a new gig and, soon, a new zip code

If you’ve had an ear to the ground in recent weeks, you’ve doubtlessly heard rumors about Brent Tactic’s new gig – which makes sense, given the relatively recent quiet of his label Think 2wice. Now Tactic, longtime Kansas City producer, DJ and electronic dance music champion, makes it official: Think 2wice hits the pause button as Tactic prepares himself to head up artist management for the brand-new CUFF Group, a global EDM label and PR team.
CUFF first got its start with radio personality and blogger Paige Plissner, who started a radio show of the same name. As the project evolved, Tactic was looped into the conversation – which included Kate Ross and Marcus Dowling – about growing CUFF as a brand and as an organization.
“They were like, ‘Do you think you could manage some acts? Do you think you could bring some acts to the table?’ And we started talking about my contacts and reach and all these people I knew, and it just started making sense,” Tactic says. “It’s just a lot of like-minded people that have gotten familiar with how each other works, and there’s a lot of trust, there’s a lot of communication, there’s a lot of brainstorming collectively. It’s a really solid, well-defined unit.”
That well-defined unit is located in D.C., which is where Tactic is heading after a final going-away party this summer (date TBA). The CUFF roster so far includes an array of national acts: JSTJR, Jesse Slayter, Kid Cedek, Infuze, Trapzillas, Beazy Times and Goon Bags.
So what does this mean for Think 2wice, and Tactic’s involvement in the local scene?
“I’m always gonna rep KC, but Think 2wice is basically on an indefinite hiatus. Not because we’re not making money or because we’re not successful or because we couldn’t have projects to put out or anything like that, but the two of us – me and Ben [Tactic, the other Think 2wice co-founder] – he’s in Portland now, doing a lot of work with Red Bull,” Tactic says. “He’s spreading his wings and doing his thing out there, and part of that was an inspiration for me to do more of my own thing. I have people asking me now whether I’m going to release more music – on Think 2wice or my own music, and it’s just not a priority anymore.”
Sad news for Kansas City, but we fully expect a little long-distance love. Stay posted for details on a big summer finale for Tactic.
