Boxer Terence “Bud” Crawford gets another Omaha sendoff before another WBA championship fight
It is becoming tradition in Omaha, Nebraska to close off streets to celebrate their undisputed champion, Terence “Bud” Crawford.
A fish fry was held in Sprague Street before he defeated Errol “The Big Fish” Spence Jr. last year, and more streets were closed when he returned victorious to a full blown parade in downtown Omaha. After claiming his second undisputed title at welterweight, Crawford is set to move up to the 154lb division where Israil Madrimov looks to defend his WBA championship belt.
The fight will be held at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on August 3rd, and once again a block party send off commenced on Saturday, July 20th.
In front of B&B Sports Academy—the gym Bud owns in partnership with his trainer Brian “BoMac” McEntyre—the road and sidewalks were full of food trucks, bounce-houses, small business pop-ups, and a station sponsored by Prime Energy. This time around, Crawford teamed up with Logan Paul to bring his energy drink Prime Energy by the palettes to give away free to all attendees.
The party kicked off with Bud and Paul taking questions, photos, and autographs in front of the growing crowd. The huge turnout was expected and throughout the more than three hour event, Terence had no objections to all handshakes and photo requests. In fact many were lucky to have him grab their phone and take a few selfies of his own. Terence Crawford is without a doubt one of the best examples of the people’s champion, as he continues to make the Midwest and the rest of the world admire his greatness
Bud sees himself entering the twilight of his career, saying he only sees a few more big fights left for him before he retires. 40-0 (31 KOs), Crawford at age 36 is at the peak of his notoriety and performance. His hall of fame shutout against Spence Jr. set himself apart as the pound for pound king of boxing. Now he headlines the upcoming August 3rd mega-card promoted by the Saudi Arabia owned Riyadh Season, its chairman Turki Alalshikh has big plans in store if Bud continues his undefeated streak, mentioning names like Canelo Alvarez and Jaron Ennis as potential opponents. Riyadh Season and Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority is on a mission to reshape global sports, and their focus on combat sports is designed to begin a new era, with Crawford as the premier talent.
Out of Omaha, Nebraska, the hometown hero is embracing the attention, and looking to conquer yet another test for his overachieving ambition.
