Boulevard’s Spring Belle Saison with Flowers hits taps today

Boulevard Brewing Co. is putting out a lot — a lot — of new beer this year. Spring Belle Saison with Flowers is the latest to hit local taps, starting in the metro area today. Six-packs of 12-ounce bottles won’t be far behind (looking like around March 9).

Get it while you can because Spring Belle (6.2 percent ABV, 35 IBUs) is the brewery’s new March-April seasonal. So it won’t be sticking around long.

What is Spring Belle? Ambassador brewer Jeremy Danner described the beer’s brewing process in his latest blog post, noting that the ale is made with “a fairly traditional saison malt bill of our two-row base pale malt and a touch of malted wheat.”

Magnum and Simcoe hops are utilized for bittering while late hopping with Calypso and Lemondrop lends bright, pear/citrus notes to the beer. During whirlpooling, the time when beer rests briefly after boiling before being cooled and transferred to the fermentation cellar, our brewers infused the wort with just over 70 pounds of a blend of rose petals, chamomile and elderflower. Infusing these flowers while the wort is still hot, but not boiling mimics the extraction you would see when brewing tea that incorporates these flowers.

In other Boulevard news, the Kansas City brewery will begin distributing its beer in New York starting March 2. The City that Never Sleeps (or takes off its drinking shoes) will be receiving the Smokestack Series’ Tank 7, the Calling, Long Strange Tripel, the Sixth Glass, and Dark Truth Stout, as well as flagship brews Pop-Up IPA and 80-Acre. So the next time you take a bite out of the Big Apple, you’ll be able to wash it down with something familiar.
