Boulevard’s 2017 release calendar details 13 new beers, including new sours, stouts and even a cider

Boulevard has given us a shot of hope (or at least a good balm) for the rapidly dawning Trump 2017 — its release schedule for the next 12 months was announced today, and there is much to like. Most notably, in addition to its existing stable, the brewery is planning to launch 13 new beers. Yes, that’s a lot of beer.
New year-round releases include a kolsch, a pilsner and a stout, but it’s the seasonal and Smokestack beers that sound most interesting. A new sour series includes the Show Me Sour and a Berliner Weisse (to be released in, approximately, February and then August, respectively). Another new offering, the Tough Kitty Milk Stout, is scheduled for approximately September.
Then there are the limited-release Smokestacks, the jewels in Boulevard’s crown. There are seven new offerings here. Scotch on Scotch, perhaps a companion to the brewery’s Rye on Rye on Rye, comes out in February. The Changeling Dark Sour Ale is slated to appear in April. Love Child No. 8 and the Upper Crust Fruit Tart appear in June and July, to be followed by the to-be-announced Collaboration No. 7, which hits around August.
Perhaps the biggest news of all is that Boulevard will close out the year with two entirely new efforts: a cider in October, followed by a barleywine in November. The cider is the brewery’s first non-beer offering.
“It’s something that has been talked about for a while,” explains brand ambassador Jeremy Danner. “We just decided to give it a shot with the test batch we made earlier in the year. It was fun and well received so we decided to add it to the schedule and make a production release.”
Thank you, beer friends. We needed that.
