Bohola

A flash of green, a splash of a favorite libation and the inviting strains of an Irish jig can tide the winter-weary masses over until spring starts. To bridge the gap before St. Patrick’s Day, the Chicago-based Irish folk trio Bohola has arrived to put partiers in the proper spirit for spirits. With Jimmy Keane on accordion, Sean Cleland on fiddle and Pat Broaders on dordan and vocals, Bohola takes a unique approach to its musical forays. Mixing centuries-old standards, reels, jigs and dances with contemporary offerings composed and performed in time-honored styles, the group weaves its sets into seamless sessions. It’s a traditionally rooted trio that plays with the technical and musical mastery of jazz musicians and the reckless abandon of improvisational rockers. The result is a driving sense of energy that only relents at the edges of the group’s considerable endurance.
