Bluesday Tuesday News: Get fat the Westport way

Mardi Gras Glitter GraphicsAnd i walked up and down this midwest town / All I could see were cars / With workin’ stiffs goin’ to work as if they didn’t know it was Mardi Gras.” — Truckstop Honeymoon.

The lyrics from the song above are from a song called “Mardi Gras in Kansas” (download it here), and Truckstop Honeymoon actually calls Lawrence home, but you know … one city, one love, right?

Show your love today for Westport at the Beads and Blues Pub Crawl, starting tonight at 6 pm. The entertainment begins around 8 p.m. at eight different locations, including Harpo’s (4109 Pennsylvania, 816-753-3434), Ernie Biggs (4115 Mill, 816-561-2444), one80 (435 Westport Road, 816-389-4180), Dark Horse Tavern (4112 Pennsylvania, 816-931-3663) and Firefly (4118 Pennsylvania, 816-569-1347)

Check out Billy Ebeling and the Late for Dinner Band at Kelly’s at 9 pm. Have some mellow blues with your $5 Cruzan Rum Hurricane.

Hear the Nace Brothers at Blayney’s at 8 pm. Bluesy country-Americana sounds good with a $2.50 Fat Tire pint.

Or Connie and the Choirboys at McCoys tonight, where house pints are only $2.50.

Right now, wristbands for Beads and Blues are $10 and can be purchased at any of the fine establishments listed above. $2 of every wristband sold goes back to the Kansas City Blues Society, who is sponsoring the event.

Speaking of the KCBS, they are throwing their Fat Friday Fundraiser on February 27 at Knuckleheads with Rosie Ledet & the Zydeco Playboys. Tickets for this don’t-miss show are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, which open at 9 pm down in the East Bottoms.
