Birthday Brick

The Brick (1727 McGee, 816-421-1634) threw its first party on October 31, 1999, and, as with any 10-year-old girl, one day just isn’t enough to celebrate a decade of life. So during the bar’s birthday week, secret shows, zombie movies and pumpkin-carving contests on Wednesday and Thursday set the stage for the weekend, when the dark-red den of booze, bands and art assumes full responsibility for your Halloween plans. Tonight, wearing a ’70s ensemble gains you free entry to Solid Gold Easy and Everywhere: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac at 10 p.m. And Saturday’s show, with Beautiful Dead, Blood Feast and Switchhitter, breaks at midnight for a best-dressed contest — a good time for the birthday girl to blow out her candles. “Customers change, bands change, menus change, but I don’t think who we are has changed much in 10 years,” owner Sheri Parr says. “We’re still doing what I wanted to do in ’99.”
