Joel’s career as a hit-maker began more than 40 years ago. Recent set lists reveal that familiar favorites like “Only the Good Die Young,” “Uptown Girl,” “New York State of Mind” and “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” are likely to be balanced by cover songs from the likes of AC/DC and deep album cuts, including “Captain Jack.”
Billy Joel’s long list of accomplishments include being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Joel is the third best-selling solo artist all-time in the United States. The six-time Grammy Award winner received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2013, which is the nation’s highest honor for influencing American culture through the arts.
In other Billy Joel news, with the elimination of the New York Islanders from the NHL playoffs, Billy Joel has been scheduled to be the final act at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on August 4. It will be Billy Joel’s 32nd appearance at the hockey arena before it closes for a major renovation. Billy Joel also played the last concerts at Shea Stadium in 2008. It is well documented that Billy Joel is a Long Island native and it’s only fitting he shuts down another arena with a bang.
The New York Islanders hockey team, which played at the Coliseum since 1972, is moving to Brooklyn next year.
