Biker Faces

When Erika Lehrer’s basement flooded last June, her husband, stationed in Iraq, couldn’t help bail her out. Volunteers with the Delta Battery Armory in Independence came to her rescue. Now the armory is looking for a bailout of its own, with a biker’s poker run and cookout today. The $20 registration fee benefits the families and soldiers of the 1/129th FA Delta Battery. Registration starts at 9 a.m. at 2323 South Crysler Avenue. Motorcyclists will zip out of the armory by 10 a.m. and make pit stops for poker (with prizes for best and worst hands) at Harley-Davidson Blue Springs, the Liberty VFW, the Outlaw Cigar Company, and the Sugar Creek VFW. Back at the armory, everyone’s a winner, with entertainment by DJ Peña beginning at 11 a.m. and a cookout at 4:30 p.m., followed by live music from the Street Survivor Band. Hooters girls will hand out prizes in a 50-50 drawing. Also: a judged bike contest and children’s activities. Contact Patty Kurth at 816-522-6642 or pattyh@e-hfg.com.
