Big XII Champs Kansas Close Out Regular Season With Tough Oklahoma Team

Kansas clinched an outright Big 12 regular season championship with their thrilling victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers last night in Lawrence, Kansas. Kansas was down 18 points, 14 at halftime, to force overtime where they came away with a victory.

For Kansas, forward Perry Ellis had to leave the game and was unable to finish due to a knee injury. It is not considered season-ending, but he is questionable for their final game against Oklahoma. The final game will not factor into conference tournament seeding for Kansas, so they’ll rest Ellis until the postseason.

Kansas State on the other hand were struggling, losing seven of eight games, but have won consecutive games against Kansas and Iowa State at home. Their last game is on the road at Texas, but will have to win the Big 12 conference tournament to be accepted into the NCAA Tournament.

Oklahoma is jockeying with Iowa State for second place in the Big 12 standings. Oklahoma (20-9, 11-6) has the same conference record as the Cyclones but Oklahoma’s final game is at home against the Big 12 champion Kansas Jayhawks. Iowa State will have an easier time with their final game, as they go on the road to face second to last place TCU.

According to TotallyTickets.com, as you would expect, the higher average ticket price of the two games is Oklahoma vs. Kansas at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, OK on March 7. With a price of $145.95 and a walk-in price of $79, Kansas vs. Oklahoma tickets are not cheap. Kansas State vs. Texas has an average price of $36 with a walk-in price of $7 for the game at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.

Kansas State can play spoiler, as Texas is one of the bubble teams seeking to receive an at-large bid on NCAA selection Sunday. Texas is 7-10 in the conference and snapped a four-game losing skid on March 2nd when they beat Baylor at home in overtime.
