Big Day for Brunch
If the weather is balmy enough on Easter Sunday, eat brunch on the narrow balcony at Figlio (209 West 46th Terrace, 816-561-0505), looking down on the famous J.C. Nichols Fountain, which originally stood on the New York estate of millionaire Clarence Mackay, father-in-law of “Easter Parade” songwriter Irving Berlin. Figlio offers, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a more elaborate Sunday brunch than usual, priced at $27.95 for adults and including prime rib and a more extensive variety of seafood and salads. On the other side of Brush Creek, one can parade right over to the InterContinental Hotel, where the Oak Room (401 Ward Parkway, 816-756-1500) serves what may be the costliest brunch of the day: $48 for adults and $21 for children ages 5 to 15. That brunch, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., boasts a raw bar with peel-and-eat shrimp, plus a variety of other seafood, stuffed leg of lamb, honeydew-poached sole, dry-aged sirloin and ham, as well as a children’s buffet. The Easter Bunny makes a personal appearance at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown (200 West 12th Street, 816-421-6800) during that venue’s Easter brunch, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Entertainment there includes a pianist and a balloon artist. Under the buffet’s ice sculptures are salads, breakfast fare, chicken, beef, pork, fish and an array of desserts. That brunch is priced at $30 for adults and $13 for children ages 6 to 12.
