Big Brother has arrived in Sugar Creek, and he wants to know if you’re speeding

Missouri’s nanny state marches on! Sugar Creek, an itsy-bitsy town of about 4,000 north of Independence has had enough of speed demons drag racing down its road. The board of aldermen has voted make Sugar Creek the first KC-area city to be use automated cameras to nab speeders.

Initially, drivers caught on camera will get a nasty-gram in the mail telling them ease off the gas. But starting October 1, it will cost you. If the all-seeing eyes in the sky spot you speeding, it snaps a high-resolution picture of your license plate (in case you want to frame and display it), which is sent to you with a ticket. It’ll also send an affidavit for you to fill out if you weren’t behind the wheel of your car.
