Big Ass Stout Day at the Foundry is February 21; plus, Mother’s moves into Lawrence and where to find Torn Label beers

Circle Saturday, February 21, in Sharpie on your calendars. That day is dedicated to stouts as the Foundry is hosting Big Ass Stout Day, an all-day event with some really, really great stouts from 1 p.m. until close.

Just about anyone who sipped McCoy’s Ursa Major will tell you that it’s a divine drink, and it’ll be available in 6-ounce and full pours along with this all-star lineup:

* 4 Hands Peanut Butter Chocolate Milk Stout
* Bell’s Java
* Bell’s Expedition 2013
* Boulevard Imperial Stout
* Boulevard Oatmeal Stout
* Deschutes Abyss
* Founders KBS
* Goose Island Bourbon County Stout
* Perennial Abraxas
* Perennial Barrel-Aged Abraxas
* Prairie BOMB!
* Southern Tier Choklat
* Southern Tier Creme Brulee

You’ll be able to buy each beer individually. (Note: We’re told that some stouts will only be available in 6-ounce pours, so more people have a shot at trying them.)

Mother’s Brewing Co. and Central States Beverage announced this week that the Springfield brewery will begin distributing to Lawrence in February.

LFK, if you don’t know Mother’s, you’re in for a treat, especially Three Blind Mice and all of its offshoots (personal favorite, Raspberry Imperial Three Blind Mice).

Expect a full week of launch parties, tap takeovers and more.

Also on the way to Lawrence, KC Bier Co., which announced on Twitter that the German-style brewery will be hitting the land of Jayhawks starting Friday, January 23. (Actually, Ted’s Taphouse will host a food and beer pairing with KC Bier Co. founder Steve Holle on Thursday, January 22, from 3 to 11 p.m.) Tickets cost $25 and are available here.
