Best of KC 2026: The cool type of screen time

Earlier this month, we published The Pitch’s annual Best of Kansas City issue. You can take a peek at the results of the readers’ poll here. The issue also included a list, compiled and written by our editorial staff, of some local people, places, and things that we think make 2026 KC life feel like a winner. We’ll be publishing these online throughout June and July.

Go to any AMC theater, and you’ll get that glorious Nicole Kidman ad where she announces, “We come to this place for magic… Somehow, heartbreak feels good in a place like this.”

Go to the one and only Screenland Armour Theatre in North KC, and you’ll find one of the few movie theaters in the area that can brag about 35mm and 70mm screenings—complete with a large metal man to part the curtains in the big theater. And can we just say? Heartbreak feels even better when you’ve got a THC seltzer, a Nathan’s hot dog in your lap, and enough time after the show to check out the kooky little dive bar, Rewind Video and Dive, downstairs.

At Rewind, grab a beer, browse their neon-lit equivalent of the Criterion closet, and play an old-school Nintendo game on their mom’s basement-esque couches. Plus, none of it counts toward your weekly screen time tracking.
