Earlier this month, we published The Pitch’s annual Best of Kansas City issue. You can take a peek at the results of the readers’ poll here. The issue also included a list, compiled and written by our editorial staff, of some local people, places, and things that we thought clearly won 2024. We’ll be publishing these items online throughout November.
Here we are again, raving about how Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are the best in the world. Well, they are, or at least have been for the last two years now. With the team starting the 2024-25 season as back-to-back Super Bowl Champions, it’s time to face the truth: The Chiefs are a dynasty.
When Mahomes became the starting quarterback back in 2018, he went on to throw for 5,097 yards, 50 TDs, and only 12 INTs, and would later be crowned MVP of the 2018 season. Although the team lost to Tom Brady and the Patriots in the AFC Championship that year, he was still the MVP in the eyes of Kansas Citians. And, there was a persisting feeling that, soon, we would get a second Super Bowl victory.
Six years later, the Chiefs have claimed three Super Bowls under Mahomes’ reign, showing no signs of letting up. After kicking the 2024-25 season off 10-1, the team and city are hopeful that another Super Bowl ring is on the horizon. The three-peat is near and locals are aware. As the season carries on, we can only hope that the Red Kingdom will be the first to win three consecutive Super Bowl Championships. Tom Brady can’t say he’s done that.
