Molly Balloons is un-poppable: Best of KC 2018

This month, we published The Pitch‘s annual Best of Kansas City issue. You can browse the results of the readers’ poll here. The issue also included a list, compiled and written by our editorial staff, of some our current favorite things about Kansas City in 2018. We’ll be publishing these items online throughout October.

It is tough to miss Molly Balloons at a party or fundraiser — she’s bubbly, she’s flamboyant, and, uh, she’s the one wearing a dress made out of balloons. Or maybe she’s building an art installation made out of balloons. The woman is a walking static-electricity warning sign. Balloons (real name: Molly Munyan) has been enthralled by balloons since high school, but only in recent years has she evolved into a party fixture around town, popping up at places like Jazzoo, Bacchus Ball, Royals commercials, and birthday parties. She also has a balloon-based fashion show — this year’s is November 16 at The Abbott — where more than 20 models strut down a balloon-ified runway decked out in balloon couture. The event is reliably loud, ridiculous, and mesmerizing — just like Molly Balloons.
